German Chocolate Cake Recipe

Ingredients:

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour;
1 3/4 cups white sugar;
3 large eggs, separated;
1 tsp. baking soda;
1/2 tsp. baking powder;
1 cup buttermilk;
1 tbsp. vanilla extract;
3/4 cup butter, softened;
1/2 tsp. salt;
4 oz. milk chocolate, melted.

Recipe:

Sift together flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt in order to mix them. Set aside. Cream butter and stir in sugar; beat in egg yolks one at a time in the mix. Beat in melted chocolate and vanilla. Alternately add flour mixture and buttermilk slowly, beating until smooth after each addition. Beat the egg whites to soft peaks and fold them in the cake batter. Pour batter into three greased 8-inch round layer pans. Bake at 350 F for 30-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the cake comes up clean. Cool and frost with your favorite icing or chocolate ganache.
